Salmon Restoration at the River Rhine (4 September 2009)

Due to cooperation with the water monitoring department of the State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany (LANUV) we were able to charter the research vessel "Max Prüss" for the excursion.

After the departure the Max Prüss will head upstream, pass the city of Düsseldorf and visit the "Media harbour" with the famous modern architecture. After that, staff of the LANUV will explain the Salmon Restoration Programme and the regular research and monitoring activities conducted on the Max Prüss in theoretical and practical demonstrations.

Lunch will be served on board. During the excursion you will get an overview of the typical Rhine morphology of the Lower Rhine Area.

• Departure Düsseldorf 4 September at 9 a.m.near the conference venue at the River Rhine.
• Return to Düsseldorf around 3 p.m..

2-day Rhine Delta Excursion (4-5 September 2009)

On this 2-day Rhine Delta Excursion organized by the Sportvisserij Nederland and Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Ministry for Water Affairs and Transport) you have the unique opportunity to explore the Rhine delta with "behind the scene" visits to the Dutch storm surge barriers, modern fish passages, nature development projects and the monitoring of diadromous fishes. Overnight stay will be in a hotel in the beautiful village Renesse in walking distance to the North Sea.

• Departure Düsseldorf 4 September at 8. a.m. (by bus).
  • 10 a.m. Arrival at Maurik at the River Lek, fish passage and weir
  • 2 p.m. Stormvloedkering Maeslant (mobile storm surge barrier) near Rotterdam
  • 5. p.m. Sight seeing Europoort (mouth of the River Rhine)
• Overnight stay in the beautiful village Renesse close to the North Sea.
  Presentation of fish and habitat restoration projects in the Netherlands
• 5 September
  • 8:30 a.m. Visit Haringvlietdam, "Behind the scenes" visit of the huge storm surge barrier, demonstration of the monitoring system for migratory fishes.
  • 12 a.m. Visit Kinderdijk, sightseeing of typical dutch windmills.
  • Return to Düsseldorf 5 September at app. 3-4 p.m.
